Ryan Carpenter Goes Seven Strong Innings
6 years agoDetroit Tigers starting pitcher Ryan Carpenter was fantastic against the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night. The 28-year-old lefty scattered seven hits and struck out three over a career-high seven innings of work. His only real mistake was leaving a 1-1 pitch up over the plate, which Avisail Garcia made him pay for by depositing it over the right field fence for a two-run homer -- the only runs that the rookie gave up on the night. He has now permitted no more than two runs over his last three outings, although keeping the ball in the park has been a problem in each of his five starts and he has now allowed seven long balls in 26 innings of work. Carpenter, who registered his first career quality start in the game, is slated to next face the Minnesota Twins at Comerica Park on Sunday.
