Pirates Nab Quinn Priester With 18th Pick
6 years agoThe Pittsburgh Pirates used the 17th overall selection in the 2019 MLB amateur draft on high school pitcher Quinn Priester. The 18-year-old right-hander, who has committed to TCU, posted a 6-2 record with a 1.04 ERA at Cary-Grove High School (IL) as he allowed just 25 hits and 11 walks while striking out 73 in 46 2/3 innings. He is considered to be a good athlete with good size along with solid-to-above-average stuff by the Pirates. Priester possesses three quality pitches -- a four-seam fastball (90-94 mph), a two-seam fastball (90-92) and a curveball (mid-70s). The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder has been compared to San Francisco Giants pitcher Jeff Samardzija.
