Corey Seager Hits Eighth Home Run Of The Year
6 years agoLos Angeles Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager provided all the offense his team needed to support starter Walker Buehler on Monday night. Seager hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning off Robbie Ray to lead the Dodgers to a 3-1 victory. After an underwhelming first month and a half of the season, Seager started to show some signs of a resurgence in mid-May and he's now homered in three of his past six games. He's been hitting more fly balls than ever this year, with a fly-ball rate of 44 percent compared to 27.1 percent in 2018. If he can get his strikeout rate of 19.6 percent closer to his 14.8 percent clip from last year, it would go a long way in aiding his disappointing .246 batting average on the year. The bar has been raised significantly at shortstop and Seager has been somewhat left in the dust due to the fact that he isn't a high-end power option and doesn't steal bases. Batting average is where you hope to make up ground with Seager, but he's got a long way to go to get back to the .300 hitter he was in his first two full seasons. In deep leagues, he should remain a passable low-end starter. His value is too low to shop around right now, but on the flipside if you're in the market for a backup or fill-in shortstop and can get Seager on the cheap, he's worth snatching.

Corey Seager Goes Deep Twice In Win Over Cubs
1 week agoTexas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager was seeing the ball well on Wednesday at Wrigley Field in the 6-2 win over the hosting Chicago Cubs, going 2-for-5 with two solo home runs, two runs scored and two strikeouts. Seager homered off starter Shota Imanaga and reliever Nate Pearson for his second and third home runs of the season. It's a good sign for the 30-year-old two-time World Series MVP, as he entered the day hitting just .194 (7-for-36) with three walks and 11 strikeouts in the first 10 games of 2025. Fantasy managers will be hoping that Seager will keep things going at the plate as the Rangers head into a weekend road series in Seattle against the division-rival Mariners, which starts on Friday. As long as Seager stays healthy, he should be a productive fantasy option at shortstop in all leagues after hitting 30-plus homers in each of the last three seasons.

Corey Seager Out Wednesday As He Continues To Manage Calf Issue
2 weeks agoThe Texas Rangers continue to manage shortstop Corey Seager's calf injury, and he's out of the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park. Seager has been playing through the issue, but the Rangers aren't taking any chances early in the season. Dallas Morning News' Evan Grant expects Seager to sit in day games after an evening contest. Josh Smith will get the start at the 6 on Wednesday and will hit sixth against Reds right-hander Hunter Greene. Smith has one hit in just three career at-bats versus Greene. Seager's minor calf injury could be contributing to his slow start at the plate this year, as he's gone just 3-for-17 with a run scored, two walks and four strikeouts in his first five games of 2025. Ezequiel Duran is starting at the hot corner for the Rangers and will hit ninth. After Thursday's off day, Seager should be back for Friday's series opener against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays.

Corey Seager Sitting Out On Sunday
3 weeks agoTexas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager is not in Sunday's lineup when the Rangers conclude a series against the Boston Red Sox. Seager was in the starting nine for each of the first three games of the series and will take the final game off. In the batter's box, Seager went 3-for-12 at the plate with three strikeouts and one run. As a result, Jonathan Ornelas will start at shortstop and bat eighth. Seager was dealing with a minor calf injury during the final week of camp. Fantasy managers should monitor his status, but should expect him to return to the lineup on Monday when they face the Cincinnati Reds. Despite missing time last season, Seager posted an elite .278/.353/.512 slash line with an elite .390 xwOBA. He should continue to be viewed as a must-start high-end No. 1 shortstop in all formats.

Corey Seager The DH On Opening Day
3 weeks agoTexas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager (calf) is serving as the designated hitter and is batting in the two-hole on Opening Day on Thursday versus the visiting Boston Red Sox and left-hander Garrett Crochet at Globe Life Field. Seager was held out of the team's final two exhibition games on Monday and Tuesday against the Kansas City Royals due to a sore calf, so the Rangers will ease him in on Opening Day as the DH. Josh Smith is starting at the 6 and batting ninth. Considering the fact that Seager may not be 100 percent and with him going up against one of the toughest left-handers in the game, DFS gamers will probably want to avoid him on Thursday. As long as the 30-year-old doesn't suffer a setback with his calf on Thursday, he could be back on defense this weekend. Seager has never faced Crochet in his career.
