5 years agoAfter a power explosion in his first week with the St. Louis Cardinals, first baseman Paul Goldschmidt has been underproducing significantly the past two months. Goldschmidt clubbed three home runs in his second game of the season and had an OPS north of 1.000 through April 6. However, he only hit two home runs and tallied just seven RBI in May, contributing to his 2019 OPS of .816. Goldschmidt's career OPS is .924 and he hasn't maintained an OPS under .900 for a full season since his first full year in the big leagues in 2012. Other concerns from Goldschmidt this year include his .275 batting average and the fact that he hasn't stolen a base yet this season. One thing to be encouraged by is the fact that Goldschmidt went into June with a .719 OPS last season and then went on a tear in June and July, helping him raise his 2018 OPS to .922 by season's end. The hot streaks and cold streaks are a headache to deal with at times, but the best bet is to stick with Goldschmidt for now. Don't panic and sell him low.
