ANALYSIS: Ignoring the 1-5 record, Reds starter Tyler Mahle has posted some quietly solid number so far this season. In 10 starts Mahle sports a 4.05 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP, along with a very stellar 59/12 K/BB ratio. He has struggled going deep into games however, only going past six innings once which has limited him to just three quality starts on the season.
As such, Mahle represents a very solid source of strikeouts, and is good for the WHIP thanks to his low walk totals. However, he doesn't provide many wins or quality starts, and although his 3.66 SIERA and 3.41 xFIP are very encouraging, he does have a tendency to give up the long ball, a trait that will likely stick with him as long as he plays his home games at Great American Ballpark.
I'm not willing to give Mahle a must-own tag in 12-teamers just yet, although I think he's worth a look as a streamer in that format, and could end up sticking long-term if he can get a little deeper into games.
