BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues
OWNED IN: 3% of Yahoo! leagues
ANALYSIS: In a true blast from the plast, San Francisco Giants corner infielder Pablo Sandoval is slashing a tidy .302/.330/.635(!) with seven home runs, 18 RBI and even one stolen base on the season. His ridiculous slash line is carried by an incredible batted ball profile, as he sports a 47.8% hard hit rate and a 16.4% barrel rate, both his highest marks of the statcast era.
However, considering that Sandoval hasn't been remotely fantasy relevant since 2014, this surge is definitely worth taking with a grain of salt.
A closer look reveals Sandoval's 4.0% walk rate and 27.0% strikeout rate, which are causes for concern. So is his .355 BABIP, which assuming that comes down, Sandoval's batting average will plummet and with it will go his fantasy relevance.
This hot streak probably will not last forever, and even while he is hitting well he is still not starting every day. So unless your league is deep and allows daily lineup changes, he's best left on the waiver wire.
For now however, Sandoval is absolutely worth owning in NL-only formats, as well as any league deeper than 14-teams.
