Diamondbacks Calling Up Power-Hitting Kevin Cron
6 years agoThe Arizona Diamondbacks are on the verge of promoting first baseman/third baseman Kevin Cron from Triple-A. Cron is tearing the cover off the ball in Reno this season, hitting 21 home runs in 44 games, owning a slugging percentage of an even .800. In four years of full-season baseball, Cron has never hit fewer than 22 home runs. Triple-A numbers have been inflated a bit this year, but Cron’s history of power proves that this year is not a fluke. While first base is his natural position, he has spent some time at third base as well in the minor leagues. Christian Walker started the year hot at first base but has hit just .197 in the month of May. The Diamondbacks are likely looking for an infusion of power, and anyone with Cron’s type of bat is an interesting player in Arizona’s hitter-friendly park.
