Jorge Lopez Loses Third Straight Start
6 years agoAnother start, another poor performance by Kansas City Royals pitcher Jorge Lopez. This time, it was the Rangers who got to tee off on Lopez as he gave up a pair of blasts to rookie Willie Calhoun (in his first major league at-bat of the season) and Ronald Guzman. Lopez is sitting on a 7.67 ERA over his last six starts, and he's allowed nine home runs in that period of 31 2/3 innings. There are glimmers of hope since he's striking more than a batter per inning and getting unlucky with runners on base, but the mistakes he's making are getting absolutely punished by opposing hitters. Unless he can learn to make less critical errors, Lopez doesn't have much hope of crawling out of this hole. He'll face a good St. Louis squad next week.
