Red Sox Bullpen Blows Nathan Eovaldi's Quality Start
6 years agoBoston Red Sox starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi spun his best outing of the season in a 5-3, come-from-behind loss to the Yankees on Wednesday. He went a season-high six innings, allowing one unearned run on just three hits while striking out six and walking one. The 29-year-old left the game with a 3-1 lead, only for the Sox's bullpen to blow it on a go-ahead grand slam by Brett Gardner. Eovaldi pitched very well but Boston's bats went silent after the first two innings and the bullpen continued their struggles. His 6.00 ERA isn't pretty, but clearly something is changing for the struggling rotation. Eovaldi will look to carry the momentum into his next start against the Tigers, likely on Tuesday.
