6 years agoThe red-hot New York Mets rookie Peter Alonso will sit out Friday night's game against the Atlanta Braves as Dominic Smith gets a start at first and bats sixth. Alonso, 24, has taken baseball by storm, hitting .378 with six home runs and 17 RBI, leading all rookies in those categories. He was initially viewed as platooning with Smith, but his play has made that too difficult to execute. Smith, for his part, is hitting .417 in 12 games himself. While both players are hitting well, this job shouldn't be anybody's but Alonso's at this point.--RDelgado
