Sean Newcomb Saddled With No-Decision Despite Solid Outing
6 years agoAtlanta Braves starter Sean Newcomb allowed two runs on four hits across seven innings of work during a 4-3 win over the Miami Marlins on Sunday afternoon. He struck out two batters while walking two. The 25-year-old was in line for the victory, but Arodys Vizcaino vultured the win after blowing a save opportunity. Newcomb has been strong in the run-prevention department through the early going, as evidenced by his 1.64 ERA. On the other hand, his 1.45 WHIP and 5/6 K/BB rate give an unflattering glimpse at the control issues that have plagued him in his young career. Newcomb is a mid-tier fantasy starter that could rise in value if he figures out how to limit the free passes. He'll face the New York Mets in his next outing, a team that he has a lifetime 1.84 ERA against in six starts.
