Shaky Jason Vargas Earns Victory
6 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Jason Vargas was arguably the most troubling member of the Mets rotation heading into the new season. He failed to ease those worries with his performance on Tuesday, as he allowed a run in the first inning right after his offense provided him five runs of support. Vargas would only toss five innings, allowing two runs on eight hits, walking one and striking out two. Ultimately, the aforementioned five runs of offensive support in the opening frame would mean he exited with the lead intact, earning him a win in his season debut. The 36-year-old will probably remain on the hot seat for the foreseeable future, especially as Dallas Keuchel remains a significant upgrade via free agency.
