6 years agoCharlotte Hornets center Willy Hernangomez connected on four of eight from the floor and an amazing 14 of 15 at the line to score 22 points in the blowout loss to the Warriors. Hernangomez added five rebounds with nothing else in 23 minutes of action. Hernangomez got some extra run with Cody Zeller shelved in this one, and he may have won some leagues with his 93.3 percent shooting at the line with 15 attempts on the night. If Zeller continues to miss some time, Hernangomez is worth a look as a plug-in player here and there.--Gianni Costantiello

2 years agoNew Orleans Pelicans center Willy Hernangomez remained on the bench despite Jonas Valanciunas' (quadriceps) absence on Sunday against the Kings, but he ended up having a very strong outing off the pine, collecting 22 points and 16 rebounds in 28 minutes. He also bagged four assists and blocked one shot while shooting 7-for-16 from the field and 8-for-8 at the line. The Spaniard has always been a good per-minute player and proved it again here. He could get another opportunity to shine Tuesday against Atlanta if Valanciunas remains out.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

3 years agoNew Orleans Pelicans center Willy Hernangomez was named the EuroBasket MVP in the wake of Spain defeating France for the gold medal Sunday. Hernangomez finished with 14 points and eight rebounds in the final contest, averaging 17.2 PPG throughout the tournament. The 28-year-old has traditionally been utilized as a reserve big man throughout his NBA career, although he set a career high with 9.1 PPG last season for New Orleans. With Jonas Valanciunas and Jaxson Hayes still in the mix for the Pelicans, Hernangomez faces a muddled path to fantasy-relevant playing time in 2022-23, even with his international trophy in tow.--Jesse Borek
