Jacob deGrom Begins New Season In Style
6 years agoFacing fellow National League East ace Max Scherzer, New York Mets right-hander Jacob deGrom was once again terrific en route to victory. The reigning NL Cy Young winner fired six shutout innings on the road against the Nationals, allowing five hits and a walk. He also struck out 10, nearly matching Scherzer, who wound up pitching into the eighth. The Mets couldn't have asked for a better start from their ace, fresh off a contract extension. He appeared to be in his 2018 form that saw him emerge as the best pitcher in the National League. His next start is scheduled for Wednesday against the Miami Marlins.
