Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere (upper body) will be forced to spend some time on the sidelines. Gostisbehere exited the lineup at the weekend, missing his first game of the season. On Monday, Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour revealed that the offensive defenseman will be out for "more than day-to-day." Gostisbehere is tied for seventh in scoring among all defensemen, amassing 27 points (six goals, 21 assists) across 35 outings in 2024-25. He's second on the team with 18 power-play points (four goals, 14 assists). Ty Smith will fill Gostisbehere's spot on the third defensive pairing and the first power-play unit. In recent years, Smith has seen very little action in the NHL, but he's shown off good form in the minors. In 13 AHL appearances, Smith has recorded three goals and 10 points this season.

Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere has matched a franchise record with a four-game goal streak among defensemen. Dougie Hamilton was previously the lone blue-liner in Hurricanes/Whalers history to score in four consecutive games. Gostisbehere is also the first-ever defenseman to score as many as four goals for the team through the first five games of a season. He's added one assist to his tally during the very prolific start to the campaign. Each of his last three goals has come on the power play, and Gostisbehere's success with the man advantage could continue on Thursday in a matchup against the Calgary Flames, who have a 76.2 percent penalty kill.

Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere found the back of the net in the second straight game on Friday evening against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Gostisbehere tallied his second goal of the campaign on the power-play off a shot from the point in the second frame. Through his first three games in Carolina, the 31-year-old has tallied two points (both goals) with a +0 rating. He has averaged 3.33 shots per game with two total blocked shots. Fantasy managers should expect the offensive defenseman to continue to see top minutes on one of the best power-play units in the sport while playing on the second pairing alongside Sean Walker.

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere suffered an upper-body injury in Wednesday's matchup against the Rangers. He left in the third period following a hit from behind. Detroit has another outing scheduled for Thursday versus Chicago, and it looks like Gostisbehere might be unavailable for the contest. The 30-year-old recently had a four-point outing and has played well for the Red Wings, recording 18 points (five goals, 13 assists) in 20 games. Veteran Jeff Petry is in line to jump into the action if Gostisbehere can't go on Thursday.
