Jake Muzzin Acquired By Toronto Maple Leafs
6 years agoThe Toronto Maple Leafs acquired defenseman Jake Muzzin from the Los Angeles Kings on Monday in exchange for a first-round pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, forward Carl Grundstrom and the rights to unsigned defenseman Sean Durzi. The Leafs will control the rearguard through the 2019-20 season with a salary cap hit to the tune of $4 million. Toronto has a high-octane offense, but they have been lacking in the defenseman corps. He has four goals and 21 points in 50 games with L.A. this season, but his real value will be bolstering the defense and perhaps skating alongside Morgan Rielly on the top defenseman pair. It's bad news for the likes of Martin Marincin, Igor Ozhiganov and Justin Holl. Someone will be the odd-man out, especially once Jake Gardiner is completely healthy after missing last Wednesday's game with a back ailment. One or two rearguards are likely headed for the Marlies of the AHL.
