Cory Spangenberg Designated For Assignment
6 years agoThe San Diego Padres designated infielder Cory Spangenberg for assignment on Tuesday. Spangenberg was one of seven players removed from the Friars 40-man roster along with third baseman Christian Villanueva. The move closes the books on Spangenberg’s five-year run with the Padres where he struggled with health and consistency. The 27-year-old former 10th overall pick swatted seven homers in 329 plate appearance in 2018 with an atrocious 4.3 strikeout-to-walk ratio. With a .709 career OPS, it’s likely he’ll need to fight his way onto a major league roster this Spring Training.
