6 years agoLos Angeles Chargers running back Melvin Gordon racked up 165 yards on 23 total touches in Sunday's 20-6 win over the Raiders. He solidified an elite fantasy outing with a 66-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter. In a league stacked to the gills with excellent production from the running back position, Gordon finds himself firmly entrenched among the best in the game. He has surpassed 100 all-purpose yards in six of his eight games, and has scored at least one touchdown in every game since Week 1 (excluding his Week 7 injury absence). Gordon is as much of a set-and-forget lineup staple as there is at the running back position.--Chris O'Reilly

1 year agoThe Baltimore Ravens are likely to re-sign running back Melvin Gordon III to their practice squad after waiving him on Wednesday to make room for Dalvin Cook, according to a source. The 30-year-old had been limited to a reserve role since signing with the Ravens before the start of training camp in July and finished with only 26 carries for 81 yards and one touchdown during the regular season behind Gus Edwards and Justice Hill. In the Week 18 regular season finale, Gordon fumbled for the 19th time in his career, the most by a non-quarterback since 2015. The former 15th overall pick in the 2015 draft by the Chargers, Gordon has rushed for 6,543 yards and 56 touchdowns in nine NFL seasons, but he'll be nothing more than RB depth for the Ravens for as long as they stay alive in the postseason.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

1 year agoThe Baltimore Ravens announced on Wednesday that they have waived running back Melvin Gordon III. Gordon's departure makes room on the active roster for Dalvin Cook, who could be a pretty big part of Baltimore's backfield as they look for more production in the postseason next to Gus Edwards and Justice Hill. The 30-year-old Gordon saw action in just four games for the Ravens during the 2023 regular season and had only 26 carries for 81 yards and a touchdown and added three catches for 46 yards. Cook, who didn't look good at all earlier in the season with the New York Jets, will most likely serve as the Ravens' No. 3 running back behind Edwards and Hill during the postseason. With quarterback Lamar Jackson also gaining big chunks of yards with his legs, Cook won't be very appealing at all in fantasy playoff lineups.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

1 year agoThe Baltimore Ravens signed running back Melvin Gordon III from their practice squad to the active 53-man roster on Tuesday and placed rookie running back Keaton Mitchell (knee) on Injured Reserve in a corresponding move. Mitchell tore his ACL in Sunday night's win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, which will put an end to what was quickly becoming an exciting first year in the NFL. The 30-year-old Gordon will now provide backfield depth behind Gus Edwards and Justice Hill for the rest of the regular season/postseason. The former first-rounder from Wisconsin has only seen action in two games for the Ravens in 2023, rushing the rock 13 times for 53 yards while catching all three of his targets for an additional 46 yards through the air. Gordon remains off the fantasy radar for now as long as both Edwards and Hill are healthy.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

1 year agoThe Baltimore Ravens elevated running back Melvin Gordon III from the practice squad ahead of Sunday's AFC North battle with the Browns. The move isn't much of a surprise, even with the latest report indicating Justice Hill (toe) is expected to play in Week 4. But Gordon or even Hill, for that matter, cannot be trusted in any fantasy format, especially with Gus Edwards in the equation.--Dennis Clausen - RotoBaller
