Astros, Mets Interested In Yasmani Grandal
6 years agoThe Houston Astros and New York Mets are among the teams interested in free-agent catcher Yasmani Grandal, according to a source. However, Grandal's qualifying offer is a potential barrier. Any team that signs Grandal this winter must fork over draft-pick compensation to the Dodgers. For the second straight year, Grandal's defensive shortcomings (along with a cold bat) got him benched in the Dodgers World Series run. Despite some defensive issues, Grandal is one of the best power-hitting options at catcher on the open market. He has topped 20 home runs in each of the last three seasons and can hit from both sides of the plate. He'll remain in play in mixed leagues because of power no matter where he winds up. Moving to the American League would be intriguing with the designated hitter spot in play for Grandal.
