The veteran rearguard capped off the regular season with a three-game goal streak, and he maintained his good offensive form in the playoff opener, becoming the oldest defenseman in Hurricanes/Whalers history to record a postseason point. He started his night at the office with a pair of even-strength helpers and wrapped things up with two power-play assists. At 37 years, 359 days, Burns became the fourth-oldest defenseman in NHL history to register as many as four assists in a single game. Burns has found his stride again in Raleigh this season, producing his most productive year in four campaigns with 37 assists and 49 points in 60 games. 23 of Burns' points have come in 24 appearances since the turn of the year.
