BALLER MOVE: Add In 14-Team Leagues (or if need AST)
OWNED IN: 23% of leagues
ANALYSIS: J.J. Barea has been dishing out dimes to his Dallas teammates early on this season, averaging a league best 10.5 assists per game thus far this year. He’s averaging 10.5 points, 10.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.5 three-pointers per game thus far, all in just 21 minutes per game. With the Mavericks issuing in the youth movement, it’s hard to envision Barea seeing more than 23 minutes per game this year, but he is certainly doing everything he can to keep himself on the court.
Barea has never averaged more than 0.5 steals per game, so expect his outstanding production in that facet to come crashing down to earth sooner rather than later. The addition of DeAndre Jordan gives him a reliable target down low to rack up assists to, as does the presence of Luka Doncic who is looking like a solid scorer already.
Barea has always been a potent three-point shooter so his numbers should remain solid, even with his limited minutes. If you’re in need of a player who can dish out a plethora of assists without being plagued by frequent turnovers, Barea is an excellent waiver wire option. He is owned in just 23% of leagues at the moment.
