Ilya Kovalchuk Posts Two Assists In Win
6 years agoLos Angeles Kings forward Ilya Kovalchuk registered a pair of assists in a 4-2 victory against the visiting Detroit Red Wings on Sunday night. Kovalchuk helped open up the scoring with a crafty individual effort to set up Anze Kopitar in the second period. The helper was his first point since his return and was also the 400th assist of his NHL career. Set to play alongside Kopitar on the team's first line and top power play unit, Kovalchuk could prove to be quite the valuable fantasy commodity this season. Despite being 35-years-old, the Russian winger has showcased that he still possesses the elite skill that helped him post 816 points in 816 career games prior to his return. He'll look to build upon the performance on Tuesday against the Winnipeg Jets.
