Jose Alvarado Saves His Seventh Game Sunday
Jose Alvarado finished out the game Sunday versus Cleveland. He would come in with the tying run on-deck so he qualified for a save opportunity. Alvarado would allow a two-run hit but otherwise finished out the game to earn his seventh save of the season. In fact, the two runs were credited to the previous pitcher so it did not harm his ERA. Sergio Romo is still called the closer for the team but Jose Alvarado, Chaz Roe, and even Adam Kolarek have gotten ninth-inning work lately. If you are in a deep league and Alvarado remains on the waiver wire, you should probably add him.

Jose Alvarado Continues To Impress In Closer Role
Jose Alvarado picked up his third save of the season on Saturday, shutting down the St. Louis Cardinals to secure a 4-1 win. Alvarado struck out one in a perfect ninth inning. With Jordan Romano struggling early in the season and losing the closer role, Alvarado appears to finally be getting a crack at it. So far, he is making the most of it, pitching to a 1.23 ERA and 1.09 WHIP. Alvarado should be rostered in any leagues where saves matter at this point.

Jose Alvarado Earns The Save On Thursday
Jose Alvarado earned his first save of the season on Thursday against the Colorado Rockies. It certainly wasn't pretty, as it required him to throw 35 pitches in the ninth inning with a 3-0 lead, as he allowed one run on three hits while striking out three. On the bright side, Alvarado was called on for the save over Jordan Romano, who pitched the eighth inning in Thursday's contest. Not to suggest Alvarado has taken over duties as the closer for the Phillies, but seeing him get the opportunity was good for Alvarado fantasy managers. Up next for the Phillies is a weekend series against the mighty Los Angeles Dodgers, followed by a series with the Atlanta Braves. Keep an eye on the Phillies closer situation as the weeks go on.

Jose Alvarado Rebounds For 12th Save Tuesday
Jose Alvarado picked up his 12th save of the season in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Red Sox. Alvarado entered the game to pitch the bottom of the ninth inning up by three. He got the first out on a ground-out, allowed a single, and got the final two outs on a pop-out and strikeout. The 29-year-old has seen the most save opportunities of the team this season and has pitched well overall, converting all but two opportunities with a 3.41 ERA, a 9.93 K/9 rate, and a 3.72 BB/9 rate. Jeff Hoffman has seen eight save opportunities and has also pitched very well this season. Both players are worth a look in roto leagues, but Alvarado has provided more universal fantasy value.

Jose Alvarado Blows Save In London
Jose Alvarado blew the save on Sunday by allowing three runs (two earned) in 2/3 of an inning against the New York Mets. He was also saddled with the loss. It was just the second blown save of the season for the 29-year-old. Alvarado issued a pair of walks and two singles before recording an out and also hit a batter to force in a run. It was not a pretty performance from Alvarado, but he is still the go-to guy in the Phillies bullpen. Expect him to get the team's next save chance when they kick off a series against the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday.
