Daniel Carlson Wins Kicker Competition
6 years agoMinnesota Vikings rookie kicker Daniel Carlson has secured his spot as the team's kicker heading into the 2018 season following the release of seven-year veteran Kai Forbath. Carlson and Forbath engaged in a heated competition all summer, but many expected the Vikings to choose the rookie after they traded up to select him in the fifth round. Carlson nailed a 57-yarder at Denver in the first week of the preseason, while Forbath's missed 41-yarder (in addition to missing five extra point attempts in 2017) likely spelled the end of his time in Minnesota. Daniel Carlson had an 80.7% career field goal percentage at Auburn - good for the fifth best in SEC history. He is definitely a kicker to play close attention to as he should get a lot of chances as part of a top-tier offense in 2018.
