Tavon Austin Draws Rave Reviews From His Quarterback
Tavon Austin drew rave reviews from his quarterback Dak Prescott, who called him, "not just a gadget player." Prescott went on to say that he was surprised by Austin's ability as a receiver, complimenting his route running and catching ability. It's unlikely Austin makes much noise early in the season, as he's been running fourth on the receiver depth chart even without Cole Beasley, but Austin has always had the speed to make a difference on the field. He's worth the last spot on a deep roster as a sleeper.

Bills Release Tavon Austin
Tavon Austin and punter Matt Haack on Monday. There were just too many talented and younger receivers on the Bills roster ahead of Austin, so he'll have to look to latch on with another team before the start of the 2022 regular season. The former first-round pick of the Los Angeles Rams back in 2013 has never lived up to the hype and was mostly a gadget player in his five seasons with the Rams from 2013-17. Since then, he's bounced around with the Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay Packers and Jacksonville Jaguars. In 13 games (three starts) with the Jags in 2021, Austin caught 24 passes for 213 yards and one touchdown on 37 targets.

Bills Sign Tavon Austin
Tavon Austin to an undisclosed deal on Thursday, according to a source. The former eighth overall pick by the Rams in 2013 had 24 catches for 213 yards and one touchdown on 37 targets in 13 games (three starts) for the Jacksonville Jaguars last year. The 32-year-old will try to earn a roster spot in a talented Bills offense, and if he does, he'll likely be battling Isaiah McKenzie and rookie Khalil Shakir as a depth receiver behind Stefon Diggs, Gabriel Davis and Jamison Crowder. Austin has mostly been a gadget player in his time in the NFL, and he's totaled 244 catches (407 targets) for 2,239 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns in nine seasons. He's also added 199 carries for 1,361 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground.

Tavon Austin Totals 54 Yards In A Losing Effort
Tavon Austin caught all five of his targets for 54 yards in the team's 37-19 Week 5 loss to the Tennessee Titans. Austin, who is 5-foot-8, was once again puzzlingly thrust into a part-time outside receiver role with D.J. Chark Jr. (ankle) out for the season. Austin's Week 5 performance is indicative of his low-ceiling as an outside receiver, as he's just not suited to win at the NFL level in that role given his small stature and questionable route-running ability. The speedster is best left on waiver wires in all formats.
