Gleyber Torres’ Two Home Runs Not Enough Wednesday
6 years agoAfter New York Yankees starting pitcher Sonny Gray’s failure on Wednesday afternoon, the Yankees found themselves in a significant hole that they would not be able to maneuver out of. While the bullpen kept the Baltimore Orioles in check the rest of the way, the offense fell just short. In the ninth, rookie All-Star Gleyber Torres drilled a three-run home run that cut the lead to two runs. This came after he drilled a solo shot in the second to open the scoring for the home team. The home run tied Torres with Joe DiMaggio as the only two Yankees to record multiple games of at least two home runs before turning 22. Torres has struggled since returning from his hip strain injury late last month, so perhaps this could get him back on track.
