Masahiro Tanaka Overcomes Shaky Opening For Win
6 years agoNew York Yankees starter Masahiro Tanaka endured a shaky opening to his start Tuesday night in the Bronx against the Baltimore Orioles. Taking on the division’s last-place team, the 29-year-old threw over 30 pitches in the opening frame, hitting a batter and walking another before escaping. From that point forward, Tanaka was significantly better, ultimately tossing six shutout innings and surrendering three hits and two walks while picking up eight strikeouts. This performance came on the heels of a shutout victory in Tampa Bay, as he finished off a superb July that saw him post a 1.75 ERA in four starts. Tanaka extended his unbeaten streak to 13 games, having last lost in April.
