ANALYSIS: Matt Chapman has quickly become one of the most valuable players in baseball. A big part of that is his excellent defense at third base, which obviously doesn't matter for our purposes, but he's been quite good at the plate this season as well. After hitting just .234 and running a 28.2% strikeout rate as a rookie, Chapman has improved on those marks considerably in his second season (.272 and 22.6%, respectively). He's done this without sacrificing power and has also enjoyed a slight boost to his walk rate. Overall, despite an extended slump in May, the 25-year-old has hit .272/.364/.477 with 12 home runs and 92 R+BI in 90 games.
Though he has only two homers to his name in July, Chapman has slashed .342/.418/.570 and scored 18 runs in 21 contests during the month. He's still available for free in nearly two-thirds of Yahoo leagues at the moment.
