ANALYSIS: Los Angeles Angels outfielder Kole Calhoun is not generally regarded as an exciting fantasy option, but he had an outstanding month of July. This month, Calhoun has hit nine home runs, scored 19 runs, and driven in 20, posting a .311/.361/.770 slash. For a player that is hitting just .201 on the season and had only three home runs coming into the month, this is quite the pleasant surprise.
Calhoun has a home run in back-to-back games and has a multi-hit game in three consecutive games, stealing a base on Thursday as well. He has 10 R+RBI over the last three games, scoring a run in six consecutive games and posting an RBI in five of the last six games. Calhoun has also been back to hitting at the top of the lineup (although he has hit 7th or 9th at times as well), putting him in the position for run production.
Considering how bad Calhoun was to begin the season, fantasy owners have every reason to be skeptical about his performance. That being said, Calhoun has been at or around 150 R+RBI over the last four seasons and has averaged 20 home runs over the last seasons as well. While he is on fire, he is a good addition in all fantasy formats.
