Toronto Blue Jays middle infielder Lourdes Gurriel was reinstated from the seven-day disabled list on Sunday after recovering from a concussion and will bat ninth against the Orioles. Infielder Richard Urena has been optioned to Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move. Gurriel has posted a decent batting average this season (.270) and faces a favorable matchup in Andrew Cashner, who is making his first start since returning from the DL, so he is worth a look as a cheap daily play.--Connelly Doan - RotoBaller

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. is getting the day off in the Bronx on Tuesday against the hosting New York Yankees. Jake McCarthy is starting in left field and is batting seventh, while Alek Thomas will start in center and hit eighth against Yankees right-hander Will Warren, who will be making just the sixth start of his young career. Gurriel will get his first breather early in the season after going 4-for-19 with a home runs, double, three RBI, three runs scored and a strikeout in his first four games. McCarthy, a former first-rounder, is still searching for his first hit of 2025 after going 0-for-8 with two RBI and two strikeouts in his first three games. Thomas has played in only two games so far this year but has looked good at the plate, going 5-for-7 with two doubles, three RBI and three runs scored in nine plate appearances.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

The Arizona Diamondbacks reinstated outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (calf) from the 10-day injured list on Friday and designated veteran infielder Luis Guillorme for assignment in a corresponding move. The Diamondbacks haven't released their starting lineup for Friday's contest against the Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field, but there's a good chance Gurriel will be back in left field. The 30-year-old right-handed slugger will return from a calf strain that has kept him out since earlier this month. Fantasy managers still playing for something with the season in its final stretch will be hoping that Gurriel can pick up where he left off offensively. Going into Friday's contest, the D-backs are in the second wild-card spot for the National League postseason. Gurriel has only faced Milwaukee's starting pitch on Friday, right-hander Colin Rea, three times in his career and is hitless.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (calf) is scheduled to play in a minor-league rehab game on Saturday at Salt River Fields. Gurriel has been on the 10-day injured list since Sept. 3 with a calf strain, and manager Torey Lovullo said he will likely return to the big-league lineup after catcher Gabriel Moreno (groin), who could be back next week in the series against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. "If I had to choose between one or the other, I would say Gabi first then Lourdes," Lovullo said. "Their returns are coming and they are getting very close and they are both feeling very good." When he's ready, the 30-year-old will return to regular duties in left field in the desert. Veteran Randal Grichuk has seen more run in the starting lineup since Gurriel has been out. In 125 games this year, Gurriel has provided fantasy managers with 17 homers, 70 RBI and seven steals while hitting a respectable .274.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (calf), who left the team's game on Sept. 1 with left-calf tightness, has hit off the Trajekt pitching machine and is scheduled to do some running on Thursday. Gurriel was put on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to Sept. 2) after testing showed his calf strain. The good news is that both he and manager Torey Lovullo said the injury isn't serious, and the hope is that Gurriel can return after missing the minimal amount of time on the IL. The 30-year-old is the club's regular left fielder when healthy, so the Snakes will want him back as they make their final push for another postseason appearance in September. The Cuban slugger was a first-time All-Star in 2023 in his first year in the desert and is currently hitting a respectable .274/.316/.428 with 17 homers, 70 RBI and seven stolen bases in his 125 games.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
