Clayton Richard Blows Early Lead
6 years agoSpotted an early lead, San Diego Padres starter Clayton Richard imploded for seven earned runs in three innings Friday against the Philadelphia Phillies. The Padres hung four in the top of the first inning but Richard couldn't hold the advantage, getting pulled after just 60 pitches. He gave up four hits and walked four, striking out three. After a solid June (3.27 ERA, 1.06 WHIP), Richard has wobbled in four July starts with a 7.65 ERA and 1.95 WHIP. With the Padres playing poorly and Richard struggling, he should be viewed as a matchup-based fantasy streamer. Richard holds a career 3.29 ERA at Petco Park and has pitched much better at home than away this season.
