Jose Altuve Trailing Mookie Betts For Batting Crown At Break
6 years agoHouston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve (.332) heads into the All-Star break trailing only Mookie Betts (.359) for baseball's batting crown. It has been just another ho-hum season for the reigning MVP, stuffing the box score with elite numbers. He is well on his way to his fifth straight 200-hit season and currently leads all players with 129 hits. Through 99 games this season Altuve is slashing .332/.394/.470 with two triples, nine home runs, 23 doubles, 44 runs batted in and 63 runs scored. Anyone in the leagues would take these stats but Altuve has room for improvement. His current BABIP of .309 would be the lowest of his career and is hitting only .283 against left-handed pitching. It is hard to find any cracks in Altuve's game and will be, once again, an elite fantasy force heading into the second half.
