7 years agoArizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Shelby Miller (elbow) was placed on the 10-day disabled list Thursday with right elbow inflammation after he left his start early on Wednesday. Reliever T.J. McFarland was also put on the DL with a neck strain. Pitchers Silvino Bracho and Matt Koch were both called up from the minors. Miller's injury is the most concerning, as he had Tommy John surgery on the same elbow last May. He had made just four starts since returning this year and wasn't effective, allowing 19 earned runs over 15 innings. He's being examined and could be out for an extended period of time. Koch could take Miller's rotation spot after the All-Star break, but he's not much of a fantasy option.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

1 month agoAccording to Robert Murray of FanSided.com, right-handed pitcher Shelby Miller signed a minor-league contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks. This contract includes an invitation to spring training. The 34-year-old logged 55 2/3 innings with the Detroit Tigers last summer before being released. During his stint in Detroit, Miller held a 4.53 ERA with a 0.97 WHIP. He showed strong command with a 5.8 percent walk rate but generated strikeouts at a low 21.8 percent rate. However, he did generate a 3.75 xERA, which suggests he may face some minor regression when he returns to the mound. During the 2023 season, Miller posted a strong 1.71 ERA and a 0.90 WHIP across 42 innings. If Miller can perform well in spring training, he should have a good chance to earn a role in the Arizona bullpen.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

8 months agoWith closer Jason Foley being used earlier in the game, the Detroit Tigers turned to relief pitcher Shelby Miller to pick up his second save of the season against the Cleveland Guardians on Thursday. Miller allowed a walk but also recorded a strikeout to earn his second save of the season. Foley is still the closer in Detroit, but Miller is likely his insurance should anything happen. On the season, Miller owns a 4.66 ERA with four holds in 36 2/3 innings. Other than the occasional hold or save, Miller doesn't offer much to fantasy managers and can remain on the waiver wire.--Daniel Burdeen - RotoBaller

9 months agoDetroit Tigers relief pitcher Shelby Miller picked up his first save of the season in Monday's 1-0 win over the Guardians. Miller came in to pitch the top of the ninth inning and delivered a 1-2-3 outing with a strikeout. The Tigers' bullpen has been a mess lately, with three different relievers seeing a save opportunity in the last seven days. Jason Foley has seen the most this season but has struggled lately. The veteran Miller has struggled this season with a 5.76 ERA in 29 2/3 innings of work. Andrew Chafin has been the most effective arm out of the bullpen recently, so while fantasy managers may want to avoid the Tigers' bullpen, Chafin may be the most interesting for now.--Connelly Doan - RotoBaller

10 months agoDetroit Tigers relief pitcher Shelby Miller (elbow) has been activated from the 15-day injured list ahead of Tuesday's game against the Texas Rangers. The veteran right-hander will make his return following a three-week absence due to a nerve issue in his right elbow. The 33-year-old holds a 4.41 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and 15/6 K/BB ratio across 15 games. He should return to his role of being a high leverage option out of the pen.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller
