Greg Bird Carries Offense On Tame Night
6 years agoThe New York Yankees suffered another gut punch of a defeat Tuesday night, and while they managed five runs, only one man stood out at the plate. Starting first baseman Greg Bird, who has struggled after a prolonged absence to start the season, drilled a three-run home run in the fifth inning of the game to put his club ahead by a run. While it was his only hit of the game, he also drove in another run in the seventh with a sacrifice fly. While the 25-year-old has struggled to get into form, his recent results show a slight improvement. Entering Tuesday’s game, he was hitting .217 across his last seven appearances, not effective, but an improvement upon his previous games.
