Matt Martin Returns to New York, Traded to the Islanders
7 years agoThe New York Islanders have acquired forward Matt Martin from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for goaltender Eamon McAdam. Martin returns to New York where he has played all but two years of his nine-year NHL career and reunites with general manager Lou Lamoriello, who had brought him to Toronto. Well known for his physicality, Martin failed to reach 300 hits last year for only the second time in which he has played at least 50 games in a season. He also had the lowest penalty-minute total of his career outside of his rookie season, logging only 50 minutes in the box. His role with the Islanders should resemble what it was before he left -- a physical forward that contributes little to the score sheet -- averaging 14.3 points per season while with the Islanders, but he offers top-end value in hits and penalty minutes. If your league counts hits and penalty minutes, Martin is worth watching, but otherwise he holds little fantasy value.

Matt Martin A Game-Time Call Thursday
12 months agoNew York Islanders winger Matt Martin is considered a game-time decision for Thursday's matchup against Carolina due to an undisclosed injury. Martin didn't practice on Wednesday after averaging 10:12 of ice time across the first two games of the series. He's been anonymous against the Hurricanes so far, producing only one shot on goal and five hits. Ruslan Iskhakov is expected to jump into the lineup if Martin can't play. The 23-year-old made his NHL debut in the regular-season finale against Pittsburgh and got off to a good start in the league by logging one assist in a 5-4 win. Iskhakov bagged 50 points (18 goals, 32 assists) in 69 AHL games this season.

Matt Martin Available Again On Tuesday
1 year agoNew York Islanders left wing Matt Martin (upper body) has been activated from Injured Reserve and is expected to re-enter the lineup for a matchup against New Jersey. The veteran winger has missed the last five games. Martin provides next to nothing offensively and has just two points (one goal, one assist) to his name, but he's once again been a busy man in the hits department in 2023-24, logging 31 of them in 14 outings. He should skate on the fourth line with his usual partners in crime, Casey Cizikas and Cal Clutterbuck (illness), who has been cleared for action after sitting out Monday's practice.
