Hurricanes Bolster Defense Further, Sign Calvin de Haan
6 years agoThe Carolina Hurricanes have reached a four-year agreement with former New York Islanders defenseman Calvin De Haan. Coming off a shoulder injury that limited him to only 33 games last season, de Haan will be looking to return to his 2016 form when he scored a career-high 25 points in 82 games. More highly regarded for his defensive play than his offensive contributions, de Haan likely slots in on the second pairing with little to no time on the power play. This will limit his upside for fantasy, but it certainly deepens an already formidable defensive corps in Carolina. A reasonable expectation for de Haan is for him to reach 25 points again, which would have put him tied for the 70th most points by a defenseman last season. He remains an option with more real-world value than he has value in any fantasy format.
