Vince Velasquez Hits DL, Fifth Starter Unclear
6 years agoThe Philadelphia Phillies lost one of their starting pitchers over the weekend as Vince Velasquez (forearm) suffered an injury on Saturday. He was hit in the arm by a comebacker, resulting in a bruised right forearm and subsequent disabled list stint. In his absence, the Phillies originally called for Nick Pivetta to once again be a member of the rotation after being sent to the bullpen. The 25-year-old made 17 starts, posting a 4-7 record with a 4.71 ERA. While he was initially tapped to be that fifth starter, he appeared in relief in Sunday’s victory, earning the win. At this point, he still seems like the favorite, but his last appearance throws that into question.
