Brett Gardner Leading Off, Austin Romine Sits Again
7 years agoNew York Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner will lead off on Monday against the Atlanta Braves. Aaron Hicks will move down to the fifth spot in the lineup after Giancarlo Stanton, who will serve as the designated hitter. Catching behind the plate will be Kyle Higashioka, who is coming off his first home run of the season on July 1. Higashioka will continue to handle primary catcher duties while Austin Romine (hamstring) recovers. The Yankees will be starting a series on Monday with the Braves, and it is expected to be a matchup between powerhouses. The Yankees are tied with the Boston Red Sox for first place in the American League East, while the Braves own the first-place spot in the National League East. Youngster Jonathan Loaisiga will be on the mound for the Yanks, and opposite him will be Anibal Sanchez for the Braves. Shortstop Didi Gregorius has had success against Sanchez in his career, but a must-start has to go to both Aarons, as both Hicks and Aaron Judge have been scorching hot the last week.

Austin Romine Activated From Restricted List
3 years agoThe St. Louis Cardinals activated catcher Austin Romine from the restricted list on Thursday. The Cardinals also optioned outfielder Conner Capel, catcher Ivan Herrera and second baseman Cory Spangenberg to Triple-A Memphis. Romine was unavailable to play in a two-game series in Toronto this week against the Blue Jays because he's unvaccinated. With Yadier Molina (knee) still on the injured list while rehabbing in the minor leagues, Romine will return to serve as Andrew Knizner's backup for a weekend series against the Washington Nationals, which starts on Friday. In nine games for St. Louis, Romine is 3-for-22 with two walks and seven strikeouts.
