Aaron Jones Focused on Strengthening Lower Body
6 years agoGreen Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones had a roller coaster of a rookie year in 2017. In order to avoid some of the lows, he has reportedly been emphasizing increasing his lower body strength this offseason. In 2017, he demonstrated that he was a more dangerous threat with the ball in his hands than fellow running backs Ty Montgomery and Jamaal Williams. Montgomery is a better receiver and Williams, although largely underwhelming, showed that he can hold up to a full workload. However, neither is as dynamic of a runner as Jones. However, Jones struggled with pass protection and durability, concerns which could land him on the bench for the 2018 season. Increased lower body strength should greatly help him in pass protection and to avoid some of the knee injuries he suffered last year. Green Bay will almost certainly rely on a running-back-by-committee approach in 2018, and it is yet to be seen how the touches will be distributed. Until we learn more, Jones should clearly be valued ahead of Williams. Jones maintains the highest upside of all Green Bay running backs at this point.
