Franchy Cordero Slated For Rehab Assignment
6 years agoSan Diego Padres outfielder Franchy Cordero (forearm) is scheduled to start a rehab assignment Thursday in Triple-A El Paso. Cordero took batting practice on Tuesday, and barring any setbacks, he appears on the road to recovery. He's been on the disabled list since May 27 with forearm soreness. Despite a 36 percent strikeout rate suppressing his batting average, Cordero has been an exciting player this season, slashing .237/.307/.439 with seven homers and five steals in 154 plate appearances. Once activated, Cordero will return to a crowded outfield situation in San Diego. He'll likely slide into a platoon role but could reassert himself as an everyday player if he performs. Cordero's upside is worth a speculative stash in deep and NL-only leagues, but owners should be mindful of potential limited opportunities.
