Andrelton Simmons Gets Day Off Sunday
7 years agoLos Angeles Angels shortstop Andrelton Simmons is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers. Simmons has been on fire recently going 10 for his last 25 with an OPS of 1.043, bringing his season numbers up to a .336 average and .874 OPS. He is the fifth ranked shortstop in fantasy and is only 84% owned. He should be owned and started in all leagues moving forward.

Andrelton Simmons Released By The Cubs
3 years agoChicago Cubs shortstop Andrelton Simmons was granted his unconditional release on Sunday after being designated for assignment on Saturday. The 32-year-old could never really get going this year, posting an ugly .177/.244/.187 batting line to go along with seven RBI and four stolen bases over 75 at-bats with the Cubbies. There's a chance another club signs him down the stretch but he doesn't offer any fantasy value at this stage of his career.

Andrelton Simmons Designated For Assignment
3 years agoChicago Cubs shortstop Andrelton Simmons (shoulder) was reinstated from the injured list on Saturday and then designated for assignment. Simmons, always a standout with his leather at the 6, was hitting just .173/.244/.187 with no home runs, seven RBI, eight runs scored and four stolen bases in 85 plate appearances over 34 games for the Cubbies before his injury. The 31-year-old had been on the injured list since July 11. If he's not claimed off waivers by another club, Chicago can return him to their organization in the minor leagues. The Cubs will move forward with youngster Nico Hoerner at the position. Even if Simmons latches on with another team and is on the major league roster, he's miles away from fantasy relevance.

Frank Schwindel Activated, Andrelton Simmons To IL
3 years agoThe Chicago Cubs activated first baseman Frank Schwindel (back) from the injured list on Thursday and placed shortstop Andrelton Simmons (shoulder) on the 10-day injured list with a right shoulder strain in a corresponding move. Simmons' injured list placement is retroactive to July 11. Schwindel will return to a .237/.282/.386 slash line with eight home runs, 33 RBI and 27 runs scored in 228 at-bats, but he's not in the starting lineup on Thursday against the New York Mets. Simmons has played sparingly of late and won't be able to return until the start of the second half of the season on July 22. The glove-first 32-year-old has yet to clear the fences in 2022 and has gone just 13-for-75 (.173) with seven RBI and four stolen bases in 34 games for Chicago.

Andrelton Simmons Getting Closer To Rehab Assignment
3 years agoChicago Cubs shortstop Andrelton Simmons (shoulder) is scheduled to face live pitching on Tuesday in Arizona, and he's likely to go on a minor league rehab assignment soon. Simmons remains on a throwing program and has reported feeling around "85-90 percent" with his arm, according to manager David Ross. "I get video of him pretty regularly," Ross said on April 15. "Looks good. Throwing's going well. Ground balls are going well. He feels good. He feels like he's at 85 percent with the arm. So, I don't think he's that far away. It's just getting back to the swings." Until Simmons returns, Nico Hoerner will continue to be the Cubs regular shortstop.
