Seth Lugo Blows It For Mets In Atlanta
7 years agoNew York Mets reliever Seth Lugo has been great out of the bullpen in 2018, but on Monday against the Atlanta Braves he simply did not have it. Lugo was entrusted to throw the final two innings for the Amazins and blew a lead in each of those innings. After allowing a run to tie the game at two apiece in the bottom of the eighth inning, Lugo blew the save again in the bottom of the ninth by surrendering two for the walk-off loss. According to manager Mickey Callaway, with a tired bullpen and the doubleheader on Monday, the plan all along was for starting pitcher Jacob deGrom to throw seven innings, which he did, followed by two from Lugo to close out the game. Otherwise, closer Jeurys Familia would have come into the game to finish things out. With a great 2.48 ERA and 1.01 WHIP on the year, Lugo remains an intriguing holds candidate who will help several of your ratios.
