Greg Bird Hits First Homer As Yankees Lose
7 years agoWhile the New York Yankees were mostly shut down by Justin Verlander in the Bronx Monday afternoon, they managed one run. That run came in the seventh inning and it came off the bat of first baseman Greg Bird, who delivered a solo home run to right field, his first of the season. The 25-year-old, who was just activated this weekend after suffering an ankle injury and subsequent surgery, got his home run on a 2-2 count. He was batting cleanup as Giancarlo Stanton sat and Didi Gregorius was dropped to seventh in the order. While Tyler Austin was kept on the roster despite Bird’s return, it appears highly unlikely that he’ll see much time now that the regular starter has returned.
