Ronald Torreyes Demoted In Greg Bird Move
7 years agoAs expected, the New York Yankees reinstated first baseman Greg Bird from the 10-day disabled list today after two months battling an ankle injury and surgery. The club needed to send someone down to make room for him, and that’s where the surprise came, as instead of getting rid of Tyler Austin or Neil Walker, the team opted for Ronald Torreyes. The 25-year-old who plays second, third, shortstop and has even played outfield, will report to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Torreyes’ value as a utility man is obvious, but his ability at the plate was also significant, as he was hitting .339 in 22 games.
