Greg Bird Could Return For Weekend Series
7 years agoNew York Yankees first baseman Greg Bird (ankle) is inching closer towards returning to the majors as he continues to rehab with the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. The 25-year-old has missed the entire season thus far after suffering an ankle injury and undergoing surgery. On Monday, Bird hit a home run, one of two he’s hit in the past four games in the minors. While at first glance this may look like bad news for Tyler Austin, manager Aaron Boone gave him somewhat of a vote of confidence, also not ruling out a possible platoon at first when Bird returns. Bird should be stashed now for his power, even though he could end up in a platoon situation at first with Austin when he returns.
