Jeremy Hellickson Leaves Game With Blister
7 years agoWashington Nationals starter Jeremy Hellickson left the sixth inning of Tuesday's tied game with the Padres with a blister on his right hand. Through 5 1/3 innings, he gave up one earned run on five hits, striking out five and walking one. The lone earned run came on a solo home run by Franchy Cordero. Because the game was tied when he left, however, the win eventually went to Sean Doolittle, who was on the mound in the ninth when the Nationals walked off for the victory. In Hellickson's seven starts since joining the Nationals, he's only given up more than two runs once. He holds a sterling 2.13 ERA and a 0.89 WHIP on the season. The problem is that he doesn't strike out a ton of guys (31 K's in 38 innings pitched) and doesn't go deep into games. The team didn't seem too concerned about his blister, and he'll likely make his next start next Tuesday at Baltimore.
