7 years agoColorado Rockies catcher Tony Wolters is a pretty useless fantasy commodity. He’s in a timeshare with Chris Iannetta, and he’s hitting just .130 with two home runs this season. However, he had his time to shine on Monday in LA. First, Wolters stole a base. That’s not part of his game, but it happened. That would lead to him scoring the eventual winning run in the eighth inning on a Carlos Gonzalez single. To finish up his night, Wolters showed some more of that incredible hustle by backing up first base on a ground ball to short with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Under normal circumstances, many catchers won’t be in such a position, and it won’t matter. On Monday though, the circumstances turned out to be anything but ordinary as the throw to first scooted under Ian Desmond’s glove, and Matt Kemp made a move toward second in hopes of stretching the single into a double. Hustle Wolters was there to scoop the errant throw, feed it back to Desmond, and watch Kemp get tagged out to end the game.
