Nick Pivetta Silences Braves Bats In Series Opener
7 years agoThe Philadelphia Phillies began a pivotal series with the Atlanta Braves on Monday night for supremacy in the National League East. The division’s top two teams squared off at Citizens Bank Park, with Nick Pivetta on the hill for the hosts. The 25-year-old was stupendous, tossing seven shutout innings and allowing just four hits and a walk. Additionally, he struck out seven, tossing 107 pitches and leaving with a one-run lead. In the bottom of the seventh, however, his offense added two runs, making this a three-run lead that the bullpen managed to see to the end. The victory improved Pivetta’s record to 4-2, while his ERA now stands at a worthy 3.23. The Phillies now find themselves just half a game out of first place behind Atlanta.
