Kevin Plawecki To Start Hitting Wednesday
7 years agoNew York Mets catcher Kevin Plawecki began catching baseballs again on Tuesday, a great step forward in his recovery from a broken left hand. On Wednesday, Plawecki is taking it a step further by starting a hitting progression. According to Plawecki, his grip strength has doubled over the last few days. That is fantastic news for Plawecki, who the Mets could use back ASAP, even with Tuesday’s acquisition of catcher Devin Mesoraco. Upon Plawecki’s return, he’ll likely be in a platoon with Mesoraco to the same extent he was with Travis d’Arnaud prior to d’Arnaud needing Tommy John surgery. It’ll be tough to put any fantasy stock into Plawecki until we know more.

Kevin Plawecki Designated For Assignment
3 years agoThe Boston Red Sox designated catcher Kevin Plawecki for assignment on Friday, according to a source. Plawecki got the start on Friday night against the Kansas City Royals and went 0-for-2 before being replaced. He saw more playing time in Boston when the team traded Christian Vazquez to the Houston Astros last month, but Plawecki has hit just .217/.287/.287 on the year with one home run, 12 RBI and 15 runs scored in his 157 at-bats. Because of the 31-year-old's poor results this year, catchers Connor Wong and Reese McGuire have earned more run behind the dish for the Red Sox.
