BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
OWNED IN: 32% of leagues
ANALYSIS: Based on nothing more than history and simple probability, there were bound to be a few no-names who emerged in the wake of the Marlins' latest fire sale. Enter Caleb Smith, acquired from the Yankees in a barely-reported trade last November. The 26-year-old lefty never got much pub as a prospect and didn't have great numbers in the minor leagues, but that hasn't stopped him from running a ridiculous 33.8 K% through his first seven starts. Smith has solid ratios (3.67 ERA, 1.17 WHIP) despite occasional bouts of wildness that led to 17 walks in 34 innings. 11 of those, however, came in just two starts against the Yankees and Phillies, both teams which rank in the top 3 in walk rate.
Over his last three starts, Smith has walked just two batters while striking out 26. His ownership rate has spiked in the last few days as fantasy owners bet on the possibility of that continuing. If you're inclined to roll those dice, you can still do so in over two-thirds of leagues at the moment.
